A couple turns through a waltz in a lamplit hall, her hand lifted into his; behind them a knot of onlookers leans in from a curtained doorway, half in shadow. Zorn built the darkness itself out of etched line — dense, crossing hatching that turns the room almost black around the dancers, with the paper's own warm tone left to carry what light there is.
