Munch was after the emotion the night calls up rather than its picturesque qualities, and the blue carries it. The vaguely defined shape on the fence may be the shadow of two lovers — a motif that recurs throughout his work. A canvas of one metre forty is a different case: no one hangs a painting at 1:1 in a rented flat, and we do not have paper that wide. So both sheets are reductions, and we say by how much rather than leaving you to guess.
